“The expert advice Kensington Taylor gave to me, support through the building process, quality of design is outstanding, the confidence Kensington Taylor gave the SDCC Board over the design and build time .”
Martyn Cox, Stoke Damerel Community College
The proposals were to demolish the existing 3 ground floor link corridors and provide a new full length glazed roof which will replace the old links. The new building attaches to the existing building block in the heart of the School, known as “The Street.” An iconic and innovative design which providing all members of the College Community with a place to meet informally, while glancing at exhibitions of students work.
Kensington Taylor were also appointed to complete a Feasibility Study for the remodelling of the entrance, learning resources and sixth form centre at Stoke Damerel College in Plymouth. The proposals will enhance the identity of the school and provide better definition to both visitor and pupil access. A new kitchen and dining hall will replace inadequate and dated facilities and make way for a new double height breakout space to be created at the heart of the school.
The triple height entrance, overlooked by new sixth form study and social areas will become the focal point on approach. The breakout space will also provide first floor access to the refurbished hall to create an improved theatre experience. KT have integrated phasing into the proposals in order to maintain teaching accommodation on site and to allow for staged funding if required.
