“Excellent service throughout”

– John Fletcher – Deputy Head – Heathfield School, Taunton

Kensington Taylor were appointed to design a new autistic centre for Somerset County Council, at Heathfield Community School.

Named the Cedar Centre, the design is conceived as a curved plan-form embracing the existing specimen cedar tree.

The purpose built facility opened in September 2012 and enables students with varying levels of autism to be fully included in academic life at the School. The centre supports up to 12 students across KS3 in three small classrooms. Other support spaces comprise a calm room, a sensory room, a kitchen area, an external terrace play space and an admin office. The building also contains the school library resource which further integrates the building into the school community. We are led to understand from the school that the facility is rated as one of the best in the south west of England and has been widely visited as an exemplar.
